Dr. Plagens is from Elkhart, graduating as valedictorian from Elkhart Memorial High School in 1985 as Julie A. Gaydos. She earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Purdue University in 1989 then received her D.D.S. degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1993.

Dr. Plagens has always deeply enjoyed helping people through her Dental career. For her education, she earned her DDS degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1993 and recently attended her 30 th dental class reunion! Before that she attended Purdue University for undergraduate BS degree in Chemical Engineering in 1989.

Over the years Dr. Plagens has supported the dental community in many ways. She is a long standing member of the American Dental Society and Indiana Dental Societies, recently receiving Lifetime Membership Award for 30 years of continuous membership. Currently she is a North Central Dental Society Delegate and an At Large Board Member. Throughout the years she has donated services to Give Kids A Smile, Donated Dental and Dr. Angie’s Dental Health Exchange Programs.

In the community Dr. Plagens is an advocate for preventing Domestic Violence/Battered Women and is currently on the YWCA Nominating and Governance Committee. She is an active member at Queen of Peace Church and served many years as Committee Chair for Peacefest Sponsorships. She is a Sustainer for Junior League and was also a Board Member for Marian High School while her children were students and avid volleyball players.

Although her practice is in South Bend, Dr. Plagens resides in Elkhart (her native town!) with her husband, Ray, and her daughters Marisa and Morgan. Ray serves as an independent agent for HealthMarkets Insurance Agency, offering health, life and Medicare insurance. He is also a retired Colonel in the US Army Reserves after attending Westpoint Academy, and an accomplished golfer. As members of Morris Park Country Club, Dr. Plagens’ main interest is playing golf on the 18-hole league and Couples Golf League with Ray. Besides golf, Dr. Plagens’ other interests include Euchre, traveling, Pilates, swimming, and more recently pickleball and attending Purdue Sporting Events. Her daughter, Marisa, is in PA Graduate school at South College in Knoxville, TN, and Morgan is finishing up her Kinesiology Degree at Purdue. Go Boilers!
